Our preferred method for you to pay Troop 98 for any amounts due is using Venmo:
Use Venmo to pay Troop 98. Our account name is "BSA Troop 98" (@Troop 98). You'll see our Troop 98 patch when you located the account.
Please email "money@bsa98.com" as soon as you make a Venmo payment so we can confirm it.
Other ways to pay:
Make a check payable to "BSA Troop 98" and mail or hand-deliver to Treasurer Mike Riesmeyer, 1115 Romsey Drive, Blue Bell, PA 19422. Be sure to put your Scout's name on the check and what you're paying for.
Bring a check to a troop meeting.
About dues:
Troop 98 sets and collects dues yearly. They are typically payable in December (or half in December, half in June). The dues cover almost all expenses for a Scout’s participation, other than meals (organized and paid for within his patrol) and special activities (like a rafting trip, climbing, or Summer Camp). Although fundraising is not a major focus of the troop’s operation or funding we are happy to consider it if there is significant interest, particularly if a parent is willing to organize the effort.
When you join Troop 98 (or transfer in), we collect a joining fee. This fee varies depending on various factors:
whether you are registering with BSA for the first time vs. crossing over or transferring from another troop
whether you've ever been registered with BSA in the past
what month of the year you're joining
The joining fee covers all Troop 98's new Scout costs (neckerchief, slide, patches, name tag, handbook, registration, Boy’s Life, etc.) plus annual dues pro-rated through the end of current calendar year.
Troop 98 records debits and credits for each scout, typically in a cloud-based application. We are contemplating using the Scout Finances functionality in Scoutbook but have not done so yet. You may request a detailed statement at any time.
