In order to participate in any activities in the pool or on the lake you must have passed the Annual BSA Swim Test. This includes both merit badge and non merit badge activities like the water carnival and reserved troop only canoeing. All Scouts are encouraged to take the swim test to have maximum flexibility at camp. We try to schedule a "before camp" troop swim test night and then turn in our results when we arrive at camp, alternatively we can always do the swim test when we arrive at camp, but it can get hectic here on a check-in day.. Passing the test at the "Swimmer" level is required for water based activities including Swimming Merit Badge. For those scouts that are at the beginner or non-swimmer level, Ockanickon offers an instructional swim class at the same time as Swimming Merit Badge and prepares the boys to pass the BSA swim test by the end of camp. Passing the BSA swim test is also part of 2nd Class Scout Advancement Requirements.
Please note that goggles are not permitted for the test although you can bring them to camp for other swimming activities.
