Email message from 13 April 2010:

Hello First Year Scouts and Parents.  Are you ready for Boy Scouts?  Please read through this email then click below where it says  RESPONSE

First Year Scouts from Pack 422, we'll see you this Friday 16th April at your Blue & Gold and Crossover.  Parents of Pack 422 Webelos: please meet with us at the Blue & Gold at 5:45 for 15 minutes so we can hand out welcome packets, go over some details, and answer your questions about Scouting and Troop 98.  If you arrive late please come find us so we can give you a packet.  Directions to the Blue & Gold are on our Troop website.

First Year Scouts from both Pack 6 and Pack 422 should come to the New Scout Orientation Day on April 17th, from 9AM to 1PM at St. Dunstan's (details below).  You should begin coming to regular Friday meetings after that (we'll always remind you).

Here are the next few things you'll be doing with Troop 98:
  • April 17thOrientation Day for New Scouts at St. Dunstan's - 9AM to 1PM  (older Scouts will be arriving early to help set up; if your older brother is arriving early you may come with him and help us out!).  You should wear your Scout uniform shirt if you already have one.  Here's what you'll be doing:
    • Completing the requirements for the Scout badge (you can receive it on Saturday!).  Read ahead if you have a Scout Handbook!
    • Beginning work on some requirements for Tenderfoot rank
    • Planning a menu, personal gear and patrol gear for your first campout on May 1-2
    • Playing some games
    • Having a mid-morning snack plus lunch with the Troop
    • Getting to know many of the Scouts and Scout leaders of Troop 98
Please check the weather forecast and dress appropriately for this event.  You will be outside most of the time and the forecast is currently calling for windy with some light rain. Wear rain gear, a water-resistant hat, and water-resistant shoes.

Parentsplease return for a Parents Meeting at Noon (inside) where we can answer any of your questions.  We will also be promoting Summer Camp, which we strongly encourage you to sign up your son for (details on the website, www.bsa98.com).

Parentsplease remember to bring your Boy Scout enrollment forms that you received (or will receive) at the Crossover and a check for $165 (joining fee) made out to "BSA Troop 98".

If you've earned (or expect to earn) the Arrow of Light Award, please tell us your Cub Scout Advancement History so we can build you a Commemorative Arrow:  ADVANCEMENT
